How to Apply for Homestay – Step by Step Guide

What is Homestay ?

How to Apply for Homestay

Homestay provide a facility for staying with a local family or home with an affordable price. It is very much similar to the other tourism platform such as bed and breakfast, Guest House, Hotels etc. The best part of this concept is that you will get a home like environment. Also you can book your room at very low price.

How to Apply for Homestay – Step by Step Guide

Since i am permanent resident of Himachal Pradesh, India. So i will tell you about the process of my state only. It may be differ state to state.

Step 1 :

First of all you have to check your area, Like in which region your property is located. You have to check that is your area falls under Town and Country Planning Act? You can check this at “Divisional Town and Country Planning office” of your district.

If you are from kullu then this office is situated at the front of Nehru Park(Near Tibeti Market).

Step 2 :

After checking this you need following documents –

  • Form of Homestay
  • NOC from Town and Country Planning
  • Khasra no. Copy( Attested by Patwari)
  • Tatima
  • Affidavit of owner
  • Affidavit for co- shares
  • Photos ( rooms + Toilet )
  • House Drawing [ Only if your area falls under the Country and Town Planning Act ]

Step 3 :

Now you need NOC from Town and Country Planning office. For this you need to submit following documents at their office –

  • Application for NOC
  • Khasra no. Copy
  • Tatima

After submitting these documents you will get NOC within one week.

Step 4 :

After getting NOC, you have to fill the form that you have downloaded earlier. After filling this form make Affidavit of owner and co-shared person. You need the signature of the owner and all the co share person on affidavit.

Step 5 :

This is the final step pf this process you have to collect all these documents including Homestay Form, NOC, Photos, Affidavit, Tatima and Khasra no. Copy. Now submit these documents at the Tourism office of your district.

At Kullu – Tourism office is at the back of Pardarshni Ground, dhalpur chalk.

After submitting these documents you have to wait untill an officer comes and do inspection of your property. If everything is okay according to requirements of homestay. Then you will get the final certificate from the Tourism Department.

Online Platform for Homestay

There are plenty of online platform where you can register your property for free of cost. But every time you get a booking they will charge a few percentage of the total amount you got. Here are the best platform for your property :

  1. Airbnb
  2. Booking.com
  3. Google maps
  4. Make my trip
  5. Goibibo

There are too many other platforms which you can try.
